Meet the Artist
Roz ‘Berries’ Murphy

Roz ‘Berries’ Murphy is a Canadian-born, California-based emerging artist whose work is a vibrant testament to a life of creative exploration and profound self-discovery. Working primarily in the expressive mediums of painting and glassblowing, she uses her art as a deeply personal practice of healing, spiritual connection, and emotional alchemy.

Her path to a full-time studio practice is built upon a rich and varied foundation. For 25 years, Roz honed her eye for color, composition, and storytelling as a graphic designer. Her career spanned diverse roles—from freelancer and small business owner to a manager at a Fortune 25 company—providing a structured counterpoint to the untamed creative energy that called to her. This extensive professional life ultimately fueled a conscious return to the tactile and the soulful, trading digital tools for the raw intimacy of paint and molten glass.

At the heart of Roz’s work is the belief in art as therapy. Her painting process is intuitive and meditative; she seldom uses photo references, choosing instead to conjure internal landscapes from memory and imagination. This practice is often a form of "dejunking the soul," a way to clear out old habits and memories to make space for healing. This theme of renewal is most potent in her reclamation work, where she finds profound meaning in transforming mass-produced or discarded objects—like a canvas found on the side of the road—into unique and cherished pieces. She sees this as a mirror for her own journey, a reminder that anything can be given a new story.

This synthesis of identity and craft is powerfully expressed in her glassblowing, a journey she began in 2024. The strawberry has become her central form, a symbol deeply tied to her heritage and being. Her name, in Spanish, translates to "beautiful rose," and the strawberry is a member of the rose family. This link inspired her company, "Bloom and Berries," a name that honors the two halves of her Two-Spirit identity coexisting in harmony. Each glass strawberry is both a technical exercise on the path to mastery and a meditation on her own becoming.

Roz’s art is an act of integration, a weaving together of a lifelong artist, a seasoned design professional, and a spiritual seeker. Her work invites viewers into a world of vibrant color and emotional honesty, encouraging them to find beauty in imperfection, to see the potential for new life in what has been cast away, and to connect with the universal journey of becoming whole.
