Bloom and Berries:
A Self-Portrait in Glass

There is a profound reason the strawberry has become the central form in my glassblowing practice. My name, in Spanish, translates to "beautiful rose," and the humble strawberry is a resilient member of the rose family. This deep-seated connection is the very heart of my company, "Bloom and Berries," where the flower and the fruit represent the two halves of my Two-Spirit identity coexisting in harmony.

It is because of this significance that when I began my journey with hot glass in 2024, the strawberry became my guide. They say it takes three years of dedicated practice to master the basics, and for me, this form is the perfect teacher. It is a tangible question I can ask the molten glass again and again, with each attempt teaching me something new about heat, gravity, color, and breath.

This series, therefore, is a chronicle of a dual journey. Each glass strawberry is more than an object; it is a meditation captured in form. It is a snapshot of my learning on the path to mastering a new craft, but it is also a vessel through which I channel my explorations of self, heritage, and identity. In the dance of fire and breath, I find a space where the bloom and the berry—all parts of myself—can become one.
